Use this free forex pip calculator to convert pips into real dollars for any trade. Pick your instrument (USD-quoted majors, JPY pairs, or XAUUSD gold), enter your lot size and the number of pips your trade moved, and instantly see the pip value and total dollar value — works for MT4, MT5 and cTrader.
Forex Pip Calculator is part of the free Aurex Trader calculator suite — 23 browser-based tools for gold (XAUUSD) and forex traders. Nothing is installed, no account is required, and every calculation runs locally in your browser.
Formula: Pip Value = Lot Size × $10 (majors / gold) or $9.09 (JPY approx) | Total = Pip Value × Pips Example: 0.10 lot EURUSD × 20 pips → pip value $1 × 20 = $20 profit or loss.
For a standard 1.00 lot on any USD-quoted major (EURUSD, GBPUSD, AUDUSD), 1 pip = $10. On a 0.10 lot it's $1, and on a 0.01 lot it's $0.10. JPY pairs are approximately $9.09 per pip on 1 lot depending on the USDJPY rate.
On standard XAUUSD contracts (100 oz), 1 pip = $0.10 price move and equals $10 per pip on 1.00 lot, $1 on 0.10 lot, and $0.10 on 0.01 lot. Same as USD-quoted majors in dollar terms.
JPY pairs are quoted to 2–3 decimals (e.g. 150.25) instead of 4–5, so 1 pip = 0.01 movement. The USD value of that pip depends on the current USDJPY rate — we approximate at $9.09 per lot which stays close for USDJPY between 105–120.
First decide your dollar risk (Position Size Calculator), then divide by pip value to get maximum SL in pips. Example: $100 risk ÷ $10 pip value (1 lot) = 10-pip stop loss.
